Cystitis is an inflammation of the lower urinary tracts, usually in the bladder.
\nThis infection is usually due to the bacterium Escherichia coli. <\/em> The topic that brings us together today is cystitis and how Cystiplus<\/a> can help us fight this infection <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tCystitis, what is it and why is it so common?<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Lower urinary tract infections are among the most common among women, especially in the sexually active age group.
\nIt is estimated that around 50% of women experience such an infection at least once in their lives<\/strong>.
\nAmong the uncomplicated infections, the most commonly found microorganism is Escherichia coli<\/em>, which corresponds to 86% of them.
\nIt is worth clarifying that when we refer to uncomplicated infections, we are talking about those that occur in immunocompetent, young, non-pregnant patients who do not have urological abnormalities. <\/p>\n

Escherichia coli<\/em> is a bacterium that belongs to the group of the so-called Gram (-) due to the characteristics of its microscopic staining and causes the so-called acute cystitis.
\nThis pathology, which, as we said before, is very common, includes one or more of the following symptoms\/signs: frequency of urination (frequent urination), urinary urgency (uncontrollable urge to urinate), dysuria (pain when urinating) and sometimes hematuria (presence of bleeding in the urine).
\nOther microorganisms that also cause urinary tract infections and cystitis but to a much lesser extent are Staphylococus saprophyticus<\/em> (4%), Klebsiella spp<\/em> (3%), Proteus spp<\/em> (3%), Enterobacter spp<\/em>, (1.4%), Citrobacter spp<\/em> (0.8%) and Enterococcus spp<\/em> (0.5%). <\/p>\n

\n\t\tEscherichia coli fimbriae stick to the vaginal wall and are difficult to remove<\/em><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As we mentioned, cystitis is a pathology that occurs more frequently in women.
\nThis is due to the anatomy, since it is easier for microorganisms in the perianal area to reach the female bladder, being because it is much shorter, straighter and closer to the anal area unlike that of a man. <\/p>\n

When we are infected, the bacteria goes up the urethra to the bladder and adheres to the mucosa causing inflammation.
\nE. coli also has fimbriae that are adherent structures that attach to the cell wall.
\nThese fimbriae, in addition to being very difficult to release, can camouflage themselves between the folds of the walls, making it difficult to treat the antibiotic.
\nThis is one of the main reasons why cystitis becomes recurrent. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe synergistic triad<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Much research has been done in pharmacology about the concomitant use of two or more substances to enhance their activity.
\nThis term is known as synergy and the purpose is to achieve a purpose that, carried out individually, would be more complex or take more time. <\/p>\n

    These proanthocyanidins are oligomers and polymers of catechin and epicatechin (tannins) with the ability to denature proteins.
    \nThe proanthocyanidins in cranberries are type A and B. Type A masks have adhesive capacity.
    \nThe AFSSA (Agence Fran\u00e7aise de S\u00e9curit\u00e9 Sanitaire des Aliments) admits its use in cases of recurrent urinary tract infections, especially for preventive purposes, with the following claim: the consumption of Vaccinium macrocarpon juice or powder containing 36 mg of proanthocyanidins produces, in adult women, a decrease in the frequency of urinary tract infections due to Escherichia coli<\/em> uropathogenines with type P fimbriae.     \n\tD-Mannose<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    D-Mannose is a type of sugar present in human metabolism.
    \nWhen bacteria bind to the mannose molecules of the uroepithelium, the infection process begins.
    \nHowever, such binding can be competitively inhibited with excreted mannose.
    \nIn this way, the pathogen will remain bound to free mannose and the colonization of the uroepithelium will be inhibited.
    \nIn addition, the binding to free mannose allows bacteria to remain in the urine, facilitating their elimination with urination. <\/p>\n

    \n\tJuniper<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    The scientific name of Juniper is Juniperus communis<\/em>.
    \nTraditional medicine attributes diuretic, antiseptic, carminative and stomach properties to the fruits of the Juniper.
    \nThanks to its diuretic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity, it has been traditionally used for the treatment of urinary tract infections.
    \nThe chemical composition of juniper essential oil includes around 105 constituents, some of which are monoterpenes (58% essential oil with a content of 20% \u03b1-pinene, 8.7% limonene, 8.5% myrcene, among others), tannins (proanthocyanidins, gallocatechin and epigallocatechin) and flavonoids (quercetin, isoquercetin, apigenin and amentoflavone). It has been described that these three types of elements inhibit the action of bacterial adhesins, contributing to the antimicrobial action of juniper.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

    \n\tCystiplus<\/strong><\/h1>\n

    As we described in previous paragraphs, the high incidence of cystitis in young women with no history of urinary tract abnormalities is well known.
    \nAs Escherichia coli<\/em> is the most frequent pathogen, the medical treatment currently used is pharmacological after the corresponding diagnostic tests have been performed.
    \nBut there are cases in which cystitis is recurrent and patients value the idea of not undergoing antibiotic treatment. <\/p>\n
