Sage

Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a perennial plant in the Lamiaceae family, known for its medicinal and culinary properties. It is mainly extracted from the leaves of the plant.

It is a medicinal plant traditionally used to relieve various symptoms of menopause. Sage contains rosmarinic acid, a compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is believed that its content of phytoestrogens, plant compounds that mimic estrogen in the body, may help reduce hot flashes, night sweats, and mood disturbances associated with menopause. In addition, sage has been suggested to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which may be beneficial for overall health during this stage of life.

Green tea

Since ancient times, green tea has been highly prized both as a social beverage and as a medicinal plant. It has been popularly believed that green tea can help increase metabolic rate, that is, the ability to convert food into energy. Therefore, its consumption was, primarily, as an adjuvant to weight loss diets.

Now, recent studies have shown that it can have other health benefits thanks to the fact that its active ingredients give it its antioxidant capacity. Thanks to this antioxidant activity, green tea is able to neutralize free radicals. As such, it has been linked to other potential benefits for aging.

Green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) is rich in polyphenols, among which catechins stand out, the most abundant being epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), with high antioxidant power.

Recently, there have been studies that could indicate that green tea may help reduce joint pain and inflammation. Green tea consumption is also linked to improved symptoms associated with menopause. Thus, green tea has been linked to cardiovascular health, bone health, weight control, and a reduction in cognitive decline and overall improvement in mental health.

Specifically, Active Menopause contains 250 mg of green tea of which:

  • 237.50 mg of Polyphenols
  • 112.50 mg of EGCG
  • 175 mg of Catechins

Additional information

What is resveratrol and what does it have to do with the French paradox?

Resveratrol is a naturally occurring polyphenol belonging to the stilbene family usually found in the skin of red grapes, in wine, and in some berries. The vid plant (Vitis vinifera) produces resveratrol. It is also found in the Polygonum Cuspidatum that grows in Asia, whose roots contain higher percentages of Resveratrol.

Resveratrol’s fame stems from the “French paradox” which is a term used to describe the observation that even though the traditional French diet is high in saturated fat, the French have a low incidence of cardiovascular disease compared to other countries with similar diets. It has been speculated that this could be due to other components present in the French diet, such as red wine and resveratrol.
