Cystitis is an inflammation of the lower urinary tracts, usually in the bladder.
This infection is usually due to the bacterium Escherichia coli. The topic that brings us together today is cystitis and how Cystiplus can help us fight this infection

Cystitis, what is it and why is it so common?

Lower urinary tract infections are among the most common among women, especially in the sexually active age group.
It is estimated that around 50% of women experience such an infection at least once in their lives.
Among the uncomplicated infections, the most commonly found microorganism is Escherichia coli, which corresponds to 86% of them.
It is worth clarifying that when we refer to uncomplicated infections, we are talking about those that occur in immunocompetent, young, non-pregnant patients who do not have urological abnormalities.

Escherichia coli is a bacterium that belongs to the group of the so-called Gram (-) due to the characteristics of its microscopic staining and causes the so-called acute cystitis.
This pathology, which, as we said before, is very common, includes one or more of the following symptoms/signs: frequency of urination (frequent urination), urinary urgency (uncontrollable urge to urinate), dysuria (pain when urinating) and sometimes hematuria (presence of bleeding in the urine).
Other microorganisms that also cause urinary tract infections and cystitis but to a much lesser extent are Staphylococus saprophyticus (4%), Klebsiella spp (3%), Proteus spp (3%), Enterobacter spp, (1.4%), Citrobacter spp (0.8%) and Enterococcus spp (0.5%).

Escherichia coli is a bacterium found in feces.

Escherichia coli fimbriae stick to the vaginal wall and are difficult to remove

As we mentioned, cystitis is a pathology that occurs more frequently in women.
This is due to the anatomy, since it is easier for microorganisms in the perianal area to reach the female bladder, being because it is much shorter, straighter and closer to the anal area unlike that of a man.

When we are infected, the bacteria goes up the urethra to the bladder and adheres to the mucosa causing inflammation.
E. coli also has fimbriae that are adherent structures that attach to the cell wall.
These fimbriae, in addition to being very difficult to release, can camouflage themselves between the folds of the walls, making it difficult to treat the antibiotic.
This is one of the main reasons why cystitis becomes recurrent.

The synergistic triad

Much research has been done in pharmacology about the concomitant use of two or more substances to enhance their activity.
This term is known as synergy and the purpose is to achieve a purpose that, carried out individually, would be more complex or take more time.

Cystiplus triple synergistic action to combat cystitis

Cystiplus is a food supplement that, with its formula, can:

  1. stop bacterial advancement and colonization
  2. inhibit and deplete the reproduction of CFUs
  3. inhibiting bacterial adhesion to the uroepithelium; and all this without the use of synthetic bacterostatic/bactericidal agents.

Its composition based on cranberry, D-mannose and Juniper achieve a triple synergistic action to combat urinary discomfort.

Cranberry

Cranberry (Vaccinum macrocarpon) contains proanticyanidins (PAC) with type A bonds with the ability to inhibit type P fimbriae in antibiotic-sensitive and resistant strains of Escherichia coli , leading to less adhesion of bacteria to the mucous membranes.

These proanthocyanidins are oligomers and polymers of catechin and epicatechin (tannins) with the ability to denature proteins.
The proanthocyanidins in cranberries are type A and B. Type A masks have adhesive capacity.
The AFSSA (Agence Française de Sécurité Sanitaire des Aliments) admits its use in cases of recurrent urinary tract infections, especially for preventive purposes, with the following claim: the consumption of Vaccinium macrocarpon juice or powder containing 36 mg of proanthocyanidins produces, in adult women, a decrease in the frequency of urinary tract infections due to Escherichia coli uropathogenines with type P fimbriae. D-Mannose

D-Mannose is a type of sugar present in human metabolism.
When bacteria bind to the mannose molecules of the uroepithelium, the infection process begins.
However, such binding can be competitively inhibited with excreted mannose.
In this way, the pathogen will remain bound to free mannose and the colonization of the uroepithelium will be inhibited.
In addition, the binding to free mannose allows bacteria to remain in the urine, facilitating their elimination with urination.

Juniper

The scientific name of Juniper is Juniperus communis.
Traditional medicine attributes diuretic, antiseptic, carminative and stomach properties to the fruits of the Juniper.
Thanks to its diuretic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity, it has been traditionally used for the treatment of urinary tract infections.
The chemical composition of juniper essential oil includes around 105 constituents, some of which are monoterpenes (58% essential oil with a content of 20% α-pinene, 8.7% limonene, 8.5% myrcene, among others), tannins (proanthocyanidins, gallocatechin and epigallocatechin) and flavonoids (quercetin, isoquercetin, apigenin and amentoflavone). It has been described that these three types of elements inhibit the action of bacterial adhesins, contributing to the antimicrobial action of juniper.

Cystiplus

As we described in previous paragraphs, the high incidence of cystitis in young women with no history of urinary tract abnormalities is well known.
As Escherichia coli is the most frequent pathogen, the medical treatment currently used is pharmacological after the corresponding diagnostic tests have been performed.
But there are cases in which cystitis is recurrent and patients value the idea of not undergoing antibiotic treatment.

Triple effectiveness of Cystiplus thanks to its composition of cranberry, D-mannose and Juniper

In those cases we recommend the use of Cystiplus, an exclusive Salengei formulation that contains 175 mg of American Cranberry, 250 mg of D-Mannose and 125 mg of Juniper extract.
This combination results in a very high efficacy when it comes to treating and preventing uncomplicated urinary tract infections.

Thanks to their composition, since these three ingredients act synergistically, they can contribute to combating recurrent cystitis:

  • It inhibits bacterial adhesion (type I and type P fimbriae) to the uroepithelial mucosa.
  • Blocks bacterial adhesion action.
  • Aquaretic diuretic effect.
  • Anti-infective, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.
  • Active against Cándida albicas.

This supplement should be taken in the form of 1 capsule a day for 6 months in cases of prevention.
You need 2 capsules a day every 12 hours if you have the first symptoms.
In known cases of postcoital urinary tract infection, it is advisable to take 1 capsule before or after sexual intercourse and another within the first 12 hours.
