The study aimed to evaluate the effects of TA-65, an oral telomerase activator, on the aging of immune cells and inflammation in patients over 65 years of age who had suffered an acute myocardial infarction.
The TACTIC trial was a single-center, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled, Phase 2A pilot study involving 90 participants diagnosed with coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction in the previous 6 months.

The primary outcome measure was the proportion of CD8+ T cells that were terminally differentiated effector memory cells (CD8+ TEMRA) after 12 months.
Secondary outcomes included levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP).
The results showed that there were no significant differences in the proportion of CD8+ TEMRA between the treatment groups after 12 months.

However, the TA-65 group exhibited a significant increase in total lymphocyte count, including CD3+, CD4+, and CD8+ T cells, B cells, and natural killer cells.
In addition, hsCRP levels were significantly lower in the TA-65 group compared to the placebo group.
Patients in the TA-65 group also experienced fewer adverse events.
The study concluded that TA-65 did not affect CD8+ TEMRA but increased several lymphocyte subsets and reduced inflammation in elderly patients with MI after 12 months of treatment.
